“Hello Families! My name is Allie. I am 21 years old. I am currently a student in the early childhood education program at M.A.T.C. I decided to work with kids after spending two school years working for a child care center while attending UW-Milwaukee. In Milwaukee I was studying sign language, but couldn’t ignore how much I absolutely loved going to work every day and seeing the little ones. I realized I had to switch my major, so I headed back here to Madison and enrolled in the early childhood program. I also have a three-year-old sister and an eight-year-old sister who remind me all the time how smart and funny kids are. My favorite thing about kids is all the comical things that come out of their mouths. I always find myself thinking, 'How did they come up with that!?' I am thrilled to get to know you all, and spend some quality time with your kids while you're out.”

“Hello Hello... My name is Amanda and I am 23 years old. I am currently finishing my last year at UW-Madison with a major in Child Development. I started babysitting when I was about twelve, and babysat all through high school. Now, after a break of a few years, I decided babysitting would be a great way to get to play with kids until I am ready to have some of my own. I have always enjoyed playing with children, and challenging them to be creative and use their imaginations. They always seem to amaze me! While babysitting, I like to do arts and crafts, and if it is nice outside I like to take kids to the park or somewhere to run around and get some fresh air. I also like to play in the snow if it's not too cold. I am open-minded and flexible to new routines and practices. Kids tend to like me because I can be pretty silly, but at the same time I respect them just as I do everyone else.”

“Hello, my name is Angie and I am 25 years old. I've been working with children since I was 12 years old. I graduated two years ago from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Speech Communication and a minor in Psychology. Many of my Psychology classes focused on infant and child development. In college I volunteered at a local elementary school helping children learn to read. Last summer I ran a summer camp and worked as a substitute teacher at a local preschool. I've been a nanny for the last year looking after a 2 and 4 year old on a daily basis. I also work part time on the weekends at a kid's gym hosting birthday parties. In the past I have worked as a play therapist for a 3 year old with Autism. I love working with kids because I really enjoy watching and helping them learn. In my spare time I like to swim, wakeboard, ride horses, read, walk my dog and just relax. I'm looking forward to meeting you and your family.”

“Hi, my name is Anna. I have lived in Madison for the past two years, and currently work at UW hospital as an RN. I have many years of experience working with children. Throughout my college years I worked primarily for two families, and provided all cares for their children. Also, during high-school and college, I taught swim-lessons to children ages 1yr-16yrs. I have cared for children ages 1 month to 12 years. My past job duties have included cooking, cleaning, running errands, and providing transportation, just to name a few. I enjoy taking children for walks, playing at the park, swimming, playing games, and providing educational entertainment. I like watching children grow at every stage of their life, and would enjoy being part of your child's development.”

“Hi there! My name is Brianna and I am a student at UW-Madison. I am originally from the town of South Wayne, WI. When I'm not busy studying to complete my Life Sciences Communication degree, I love spending time with children. I have experience with infants through school-aged children, and have babysat since I was 13. I began babysitting my cousins from the time they were born (they are now 11, 7, 4, and 2), and then spent summers sitting for other children in the area. I am also a leader in 4-H working with children ages 7 and up and have been a camp counselor. I am very comfortable handing multiple children at once as well as many age ranges. I love playing games, coloring, doing arts/crafts, and going to the park when I sit; after all, I'm still a kid myself. What I enjoy most about spending time with children is teaching them something new. It might be out while we're on a walk or how to tie their shoe, but the excitement when they understand something new is something I treasure every time it happens. When I have time away from school or work, I enjoy hanging out with friends, going for runs, spending time at home with family and my dog, Abby, and watching the Badgers. Go Bucky! I look forward to meeting you and your family soon!”

“Hello! My name is Carissa Franz. I am 21 years old and I just transferred from UW-La Crosse to UW-Madison for spring semester. I am an early childhood to middle childhood education major with a concentration in global perspectives. I will be certified to teach birth through sixth grade upon graduation. My hometown is Manitowoc, Wisconsin, a town of about 30,000 people right on Lake Michigan. However, my parents recently relocated to Middleton and bought Orchids by the Ackers, which prompted my decision to transfer to Madison.

“My experience with children began as a teenager. At a young age I knew that I wanted to be a teacher, therefore I took many opportunities to work with children throughout my teenage years. I began babysitting for families throughout the Manitowoc area at the age of 14 and continued to do so until I moved to La Crosse to attend college. I was also a dance teacher for the Manitowoc Parks and Recreation Department during the summers, instructing children from the ages of three to fifteen. In addition, I volunteered as a camp counselor during the summers of 2004 and 2005 for the 4-H organization in Mishicot, Wisconsin. One of the best experiences I started at the age of 16 was becoming a volunteer Big Sister through the Big Brothers Big Sisters Organization. Upon moving to La Crosse I was re-matched with another Little Sister through the organization, and now am in the process of being matched with a new Little here in the Dane County area. Lastly, I was given the opportunity to be a teacher’s assistant in a kindergarten classroom every morning for three hours my senior year of high school.

“During my college years thus far I have taken many opportunities to gain more experience with children. I am currently employed through the Wisconsin Youth Company’s before and after school program as a lead program specialist. In addition, I worked for a year and a half for the La Crosse YMCA in their before and after school program, and also in their day camp during the summer of 2007. Through this program I was able to develop great relationships with many of the families and babysat for them often. I am still in contact with many of them today! I also took the opportunity to be gain more experience in classroom settings both in a first grade classroom in Sparta, Wisconsin and in a Head Start classroom in La Crosse during the spring of 2008. In addition, this past summer I was employed as a nanny for a family in Sun Prairie, as well as babysat for many families throughout the Dane County area. Also, through being admitted early to the education program at UW-La Crosse in fall 2007 I have many classes that deal with child development and education. Some of these classes include, Child Development, Educational Psychology, Introduction to Early Childhood Education, Introduction to Elementary Education, Education in a Global Society, Physics for Elementary School Teachers, Math for Elementary School Teachers, Health Info for Teachers, and many others. I am continuing developing my knowledge through courses here at UW-Madison in the education program.

“Some of my hobbies include dance, crafts and art!!!, reading, swimming, and sledding in the winter. However, I am a very flexible person and I love to try new things. I am constantly looking for new activities and enjoy variety and options.

“As a caretaker for your children I believe safety is my number one priority. I believe a quality babysitter puts children as their first priority, especially their safety, is a positive role model, and assists the children in coming up with fun and exciting activities so the night is a fun and positive experience! I look forward to establishing positive relationships with you and your family! =)”

“Hello, my name is Carrie Schreiber. I am 27 years old. I was born in Forth Worth, Texas, and moved to Illinois with my parents when I was 5 years old. During my Sophomore year in High School, I was surprised by the news that we were moving again, this time to Wisconsin. I have learned to adapt to change quite well. After Graduation in 1999 I began a wonderful path of determination. From 2001-2003, I attended Madison Area Technical College in the complex Medical Assistant Program. Within the first year, I accomplished getting my Health Care Provider, CPR Certification, and extensive training in Medical Emergencies. The following and final year, I accomplished training in Law & Ethics, Phlebotomy, Hematology, and working with families in a Clinical setting. At the end of my two-year program, and close to graduation, I decided that my true calling is working with children. I thought I knew then, but I know now more than ever. I feel from what I have learned and experienced throughout my schooling that this will be a wonderful tool to use in any working position, and that none of it will ever go to waste. I have always found working with children to be extremely rewarding. I have been a Certified Live-out Nanny since 2002. I was also a Teacher at Play Haven Childcare Center for one year with all age groups from Infant-School age. During that time I also worked as voluntary tutor at McFarland Primary School, tutoring first graders by holding independent reading groups and working one-on-one with students on a variety of skills. I am proud to say that, on February 24th of 2007, I completed the Heart saver Pediatric First Aid with Adult & Child CPR & AED with flying colors! As a Certified Nanny, I am required to update all my certifications every 3 years. Working with children brings out the best in me and my life. Being a Nanny or any kind of childcare provider is what I feel is my calling and I wouldn't have it any other way. Children are our future, so innocent looking out to a gigantic world for knowledge and comfort. To be able to be a part of a child's learning process is truly remarkable. To watch a child grow day to day is a wonderful experience. I would love to be a part of that in any home. I feel that I am more than qualified to be a childcare provider that will be funny, playful, a listener, a teacher, a friend, a safe haven, a shoulder to cry on, and most of all a part of the family. Some of my Hobbies include: Playing the Piano, Quiet get-togethers with friends and family, running (Relay for Life), listening to music, writing poetry, Continuing Education classes, and scrapbooking.”

I have always enjoyed working with children, taking my responsibilities very seriously, and I would like to assure you of my honesty and integrity. I believe in the child within, and this really proves to be fun for everyone! I am patient and love to laugh. Although I have no children of my own, I am great with kids. (When the kids say they have had fun, then I know the job was well done!) As a former and current caregiver to three active youngsters, I certainly know the importance of good time management. I have also learned that children of all ages are resilient, smart, and very capable beings. Although it is a sitter’s job to help teach, it is also one of learning. Kids not only say the 'darndest things,' but they can teach us the 'darndest things.'”

“Hi, my name is Courtney and I am 24 years old. I am currently a student at UW-Whitewater and will be graduating in December. This Fall I will be doing my student teaching in Madison so I have moved back here full time. After graduating I will have a dual license in Early Childhood Education and Special Education which certifies me to teach ages birth through third grade in both regular education and special education. I feel lucky to be part of such a unique program at the University, it is truly rewarding. During my years in the program I have had several opportunities to work with children in many different settings. I have worked in a head start classroom in Beloit, WI. with 3-5 year olds; a kindergarten classroom in Delevan, WI.; an early childhood/special education classroom with 3-5 year olds with varying abilities in Janesville, WI.; and a first/second grade classroom in Edgerton, WI. On top of that I have already finished my pre-school student teaching at the Waisman Center in Madison, WI. and my birth to three student teaching at St. Francis Children's Center in Milwaukee, WI. I have learned a tremendous amount from each of these placements and feel that I have gained great ideas and techniques to use while working with children of all abilities. I also have job experience related to the field; I was a summer nanny for newborn twins and a 2yr. old, and a summer nanny for 3 girls ages 6 months, 6 years old, and 8 years old. I also worked at The Learning Depot 2 in Whitewater, WI. with children ages 6months-5 years old and at the Preschool of The Arts in Madison. I feel comfortable and confident with newborns and have a lot of experience taking care of them as well as older children. I am nurturing, friendly, caring, outgoing, and a team worker. As a teacher, I work well with collaboration which helps me work well with families. I think that positive relationships with families are as important as the relationship with the children. I am open to new ideas and am willing to share some of my own. A little bit about myself, other than work experience is: I was born and raised in Madison and come from a family of six. I have a twin sister as well as an older brother and a younger brother. My love for children started from an early age as my mother stayed home with us and ran a child care program out of our home. I loved helping her with the children as well as taking care of my younger brother when he was born. He is 8 years younger than me so it was a wonderful learning experience at a young age. I also enjoy photography and scrapbooking. I enjoy working with children because they are full of energy, life, and love. When I look at any child I see their potential and want to help them reach their goals. I love to jump right in and play with them, join in on the fun and learning. Being around children is what makes me happy and to teach is my passion; I am lucky to be able to make a career out of it. Thanks for your time and I look forward to meeting you and your children!”

“Hello! My name is Danielle and I am 30. I grew up in a small town in Northern Vermont, in a very close, tight-knit family with 2 loving parents and a feisty little sister. At the young age of 11, I started babysitting for neighbors and family friends. At one point when I was 12, I was consistently babysitting for 4 different families and rarely had a weekend day or Friday evening free. This continued all through High School and into College. While pursuing a degree in Elementary Education, I continued to babysit for many of my professors' children as well as teach dance lessons to a few of them. Also during this time, I taught for 3 summers at an Arts Camp in Maine called Medolark. Upon graduation, I have worked in many capacities in the childcare field that include but are not limited to teaching both elementary and preschool classes, full-time Nanny, teaching creative movement, music and art to infant to 5 year olds, running a play center, tutoring students up to 8th grade and being a camp counselor. I have worked with children of all ages from infants to 15-year-olds. Everyone always asks me what age I like the most and I can never decide! I feel each age has its own special qualities that make it so much fun to watch and help facilitate growth and learning. I have lots of varied interests including skiing, snowboarding, swimming, sailing, singing, playing guitar, hiking, camping, going to museums, cooking, painting, dancing, etc… Currently, I am the Lead Pre-school Teacher at Big Oak Childcare Center on Atwood and I am also have a seat on their Board. In my spare time I love boating, shopping, cleaning and hanging out with my friends. I played softball for 13 years and enjoy watching or playing just about any other sport. In high school I taught 3rd grade Sunday school for 2 years and found many here and there sitting jobs through friends and family. Throughout high school I helped coach and ref many little league softball and volleyball clubs. My most in depth child care experiences have definitely come from babysitting my 3 year and 6 month old nieces, Makenna and Maliya. I'm with them multiple times a week and continue to make new and exciting memories with them. I find helping children learn brings me great satisfaction whether it be school related, sports related, or just with general knowledge, teaching them something can make my day. I am comfortable working with children of any age and looking after pets as well. I consider myself to be a fun and hard working person, I have a lot of positive energy and really enjoy giving that energy to others. I can't wait to meet you and your family!”

“Hi there! My name is Jess. Fresh off my recent travels, I'm excited to be back home in the Madison area celebrating the colorful changes of the season and enjoying the great outdoors. I am a recent graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a B/A in Conservation Biology, Physical Geography and a certificate in Environmental Studies. My academic and personal love for nature led me to a fabulous job this summer leading adventure tours in the far north, Alaska. My experience with children stretches far back to a young age when I looked after my two younger sisters as well as some of my 24 cousins. Eventually I began taking regular babysitting jobs for neighbors and family friends when I completed my Red Cross Babysitting Certification. In recent years I've worked with kids in community gardens including a farm and wilderness preserve in the California in the summer of 2007. In Alaska, this past summer, I took kids on hikes and bike rides around the state. I love the curiosity of children and their un-jaded outlook of the world. I find myself re-inspired every day that I work with kids and hope that I can teach them as much as they seem to teach me. I am passionate about creative child development, as the children are the future of our world. Children can feel comfortable expressing themselves around me because I am an active listener and dream supporter. I can even help them with their homework. In fact, I enjoy that educational interaction. Eventually I would like to go back to school and teach in a more formal setting, specifically environmental studies in high school. In my free time I like to see live music, shop at the farmer's market, go camping, hike, bike, read, cook, paint, draw, shoot photography, travel (my summer job allowed me to drive to and from Alaska and across the country to Wisconsin) and generally explore the outdoors. I am First Aid and CPR certified and have a commercial driver's license. I love animals so your pets are more than fine with me. I look forward to meeting you and your family and hope to see you soon!”

I moved back to Madison about a year ago and have started a business as a dating coach, but much of the last 10+ years of my life has been spent working with children. I ran a day camp in South Korea, and worked at camps in Iowa, California, and New York. I was the Youth Program Director for two cruise lines (Royal Caribbean and Holland America) and used to be the Youth and Teen director for the YMCA here in Madison. I love my new business venture but will always miss working with kids. That is why While You're Out is such a perfect match for me.”

“Hi! My name is Laura. I am a 19-year-old student attending the University of La Crosse. I was born and raised in Madison and graduated from Memorial High School in 2006. I am majoring in Marketing and considering a minor in International Business or French. I have always adored spending time with kids! Growing up I dreamed of someday being a teacher. In Middle School I was an assistant Sunday school teacher for a while at my church and loved being in a classroom with kids. In high school I decided that I would go into Marketing because I plan to have at least four kids of my own some day. I took Family Life in high school and earned my Assistant Childcare Certificate, which allowed me to work in a daycare at an earlier age if I wanted to. I grew up in a family with four kids myself. I started baby-sitting when I was 11 for my younger brother and sister. Over the years I have babysat for numerous of my neighbors, siblings’ friends, and friends of families I’ve babysat for. I always have a ton of energy for doing fun activities with kids. I love doing crafts, playing sports, teaching, and making believe with kids. I am very compassionate and always have lots of love to give! I sincerely look forward to meeting you and your children!”

“Hello, my name is Liz! I am 26 years old and recently married. Though I don't have any children of my own yet, I love spending time with children and have a long history of experience. Some of my favorite things to do with toddlers and older children are spending time outside, playing board games, reading books, or getting creative with coloring and crafts. I also like to spend time feeding and holding infants especially because they are so sweet and stay at that stage for such a short period of time. I am very comfortable with children of all ages whether it be playing or helping with homework. My first paying job was babysitting in the summer for a family with two elementary aged girls when I was 12 and I’ve been watching kids of all ages groups ever since. I also was a mentoring "buddy" during my high school years for an elementary aged girl from a low income family, where we spent time together playing or working on homework. I also participated in a tutoring program for grades three through five during my junior and senior years of high school helping kids who were struggling to learn math or reading skills. In my spare time I enjoy playing in a recreational volleyball league during the summer or playing a game of horse in the driveway with my husband and all the neighborhood kids. I love spending time with my animals including running or walking with my dog daily. I also enjoy being in the kitchen whipping up a new recipe or relaxing by reading a good book.”

Availability: Evenings and weekends, and looking for full-time summer Nanny position
“Hello! My name is Margaret and I am currently a student at UW-Madison majoring in Elementary Education and Psychology. I have lived in Madison for almost four years now and I absolutely love it. I started nannying in Madison over two years ago, almost three now. I have experience with children from ages newborn to 10 years, and I love working with every age group. I have done all day, evening, overnight, and even long-term child care and I am confident that you will be comfortable leaving your children with me. I am not an expert chef, but I do feel comfortable cooking meals, as well as giving baths, naptime, and bedtime. I am a huge fan of being active, getting out and doing things. Weather permitting, I love going for walks or bike rides to nearby parks or libraries, playing tag or basketball, or anything else that includes being outside. I am also very fond of the Children's Museum and the zoo. As a nanny, I feel that my job is to keep the children entertained, be that fun person that gets to come when the parents leave, but I also want your children to feel as secure with me as they do with you. I am close to some of the past families I have babysat for as I am with my own family. I look forward to getting to know you and your children, and hopefully becoming a part of your family!”

“Hi I’m Melissa Newman and I am 25 years old.  I am currently a nanny and have been for the past five years for the same wonderful family.  I work with three girls, a five-year-old and four-year-old twins.  I started working with this family when the oldest girl was 6 months old and have been happily working with them ever since.  I started babysitting when I was 13 for children in my neighborhood and loved it; so I never really stopped.  I have experience with children of all ages.  I started taking care of the twins I nanny for when they were only a few days old and have babysat for kids all the way up through the ages.  In my free time I love to read anything and everything that I can get my hands on.  I also love spending time with my Labrador retriever at the dog park and on walks.  I have a degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Psychology with an emphasis in child development.  I plan to pursue a masters in psychology so that I can continue my work with children.  I hope to always be able to work with children in one form or another.”

“Hello! My name is Paola and I am currently a middle school teacher in the Madison School District. I have been teaching for four years, and I am loving it. I feel very fortunate to be in a profession where I can work with kids all day long. I am also a grad student at Edgewood College and I am working on my Masters in Bilingual/ESL Education. I moved to Madison 8 years ago when I went to UW-Madison and got my my undergrad degree in Elementary Education. I fell in love with the city, and have been living here ever since.

“I have experience working with kids of all ages and enjoy playing with them. I would say my biggest strength is that I am a kid at heart, and kids tend to feel very comfortable and safe with me. Another strength I have is that I have experience working with many different families who have had anywhere from one child to five children. I even babysat for three families with multiples. So regardless of your family size, I hope you feel more than safe to leave your loved ones under my care!”

“Hi, I’m Sabrina Kis! This is my second year attending UW-Madison. Originally, I came to school wanting to major in Business, but after this past summer I have decided I want to work with children. I have always enjoyed children and babysitting, but this summer I worked for an amazing summer camp and fell in love with kids all over again. I spent over 40 hours a week caring for and playing with children of all ages, but my specific age group I tended to the most was 5 to 8 year olds. At a counselor, I was always actively participating in all the activities at camp such as: making arts and crafts, cooking, playing sports, playing games, going on field trips, etc. Besides being a counselor, I have been involved with kids my own life. Not only do I have a brother who is ten years younger than I, I have plenty of little cousins who I’ve babysat for since I was 12 years old. I also used to teach ballet to 4 and 5 year olds when I was 14. Right now, I am an after school nanny for two boys - one is 4 and one is 8. Some of the qualities I possess that allow me to work well with children are that I’m responsible, flexible, patient, kind, and most importantly fun. Over the years I have noticed that children are drawn to me. They really trust me and have a good time with me! I cannot wait to start new relationships with you and your children.”

“Hi everyone!  My name is Samantha, I’m 21 years old and I am from Madison, WI, but I grew up in the small town of Lodi, WI. I have always enjoyed being around children, they are so much fun, and I believe that they can teach us just as much as we can teach them. I am from a big family so I was always helping my mother with my younger siblings. When I was a freshman in high school I started babysitting for a family, they have two children and I watched them 3 days a week, I still watch them now six years later. I am a creative person so I like to come up with activities for kids to do other then watch TV.  I worked at a daycare in my home town for 2 years and had a blast doing it. I have taken care of children 6 weeks to 12 years old. I can cook and even though I'm not a genius, I am always happy to help kids with homework.  I am so excited to get to know as many of you as I can.”

“Hi! My name is Valorie (or Val for short). I am a licensed child care provider with over 30 years experience working with kids of all ages. I started baby-sitting for my younger siblings at age 8 years, and at age 11 years began baby-sitting for one family in Madison for over 16 years. I also taught gymnastics for 12 years, opened my own home child care and, most recently, helped establish a local drop in child care for parents at a local fitness facility. I love being outside when weather permits and enjoy singing children's songs, dancing, and playing games with the children. I love to make learning fun and teach children through play. For quiet time, I love a great art project, a fun book or two, or quiet cuddle time - as one family calls me, "The baby whisperer." I am patient, honest, responsible, and reliable. Your children come first for me. My hope is that your children have fun, grow, and learn while in my care. I look forward to meeting you and your family.”

“As a child, I was eclectic and self-sufficient. I was pushed at a young age to test my boundaries and to learn as much as possible from any situation. I was involved in dance, gymnastics, and theater, choir, band, and Girl Scouts until I turned thirteen. While attending James Madison Memorial High School, I stayed active in varsity cheerleading as well as the school newspaper. My life continued to thrive in Madison, but I began contemplating my purpose in life while applying out-of-state for college. I then made the decision that changed my life by choosing between several different colleges in different states all over the United States such as North Carolina, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, Minnesota, Michigan, California, Virginia (where my sister was already attending college), and Tennessee. Out of all these Universities, I decided to venture away from the norm/expectations of my parents and attend Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee.
“My undergraduate degree shaped me in many ways and I found a true passion for psychology while attending school. During my sophomore year, I began gradually involving myself in extra curricular activities. I participated in SIFE (students in free enterprise), Big Sister/Little Sister programs, the university choir, theater, and by the end of my junior and beginning of my senior year, I was inducted into the national honors society for psychology majors (Psy Chi), and during the summer after my junior year, I studied abroad in Spain and increased my skills in speaking Spanish from intermediate to almost fluent.

“Reoccurring experiences made me realize that counseling may be my calling in life. Not only did I enjoy helping others, but I also found a sense of peace knowing that I could impact/change people’s lives in a positive manner by lending an ear or trying to guide them through difficult situations.. After graduating from Fisk University, I took off a year from school to build work experience and there, too, I encountered many situations were psychology impacted my life. I began researching different areas of psychology in pursuit for my final career choice and wanting to gain more experience, I decided to work at a private psychiatrist’s office for a year in Tennessee. Due to this decision my interaction with both patients and the doctor’s techniques fueled my drive to pursue counseling instead of psychiatry. I have a sincere desire to help people reach there maximum happiness in life and I feel that counseling is the field that would allow me to do so.
“I have always wanted to succeed to the best of my ability and I know that counseling will fulfill me. I also have a strong passion for relationships and have been able to observe different relationship issues from parents, friends, and mentors. Now that I am twenty-three, I plan to attend graduate school for mental health counseling this spring at the University of Whitewater where I will study educational counseling (which will in tale working with children in the different public/private school systems) and marriage and family therapy. Soon after being certified in counseling, I plan to receive my doctorate in psychology.”
