“Hello, my name is Angela Andrea, and I am originally from Webster, WI. I lived in the country beside Austin Lake where my family would go swimming every summer along with ice fishing and snowmobiling every winter. Just down the road, my neighbors who are great friends of the family had two boys which I babysat throughout high school. We enjoyed playing board games and card games, coloring, putting models together, playing outside, and I would help them with homework. As I have grown older and had babysat for many families over the years, I came to truly enjoy doing crafts and teaching whatever the children liked to learn. I have experience with children from infants through the age of fourteen.
“I am currently attending Edgewood College for two majors, pre-nursing and biology. It is an honor to be a student there, as I have learned well beyond what I ever thought the college would offer. Also, this summer I will be going to school at MATC for a certified nursing assistant class and volunteering at the Humane Society along with HospiceCare. I honestly can say that I am addicted to learning. Now, I want to turn that around and use it to help those in need and/or for those who just wish to learn.
It is an incredible feeling in tutoring someone and their face lights up when they comprehend something. It is even the simplest of things for children. I showed a my best friend's two year old boy how to place a block in the square hole after the child had been struggling for quite some time. I then gave the block back to him, and when he put it in the slot he looked up at me with the biggest smile that my heart just melted right there on the spot. It is truly a great feeling to know of the help I can bring to a child.
“My sister taught me how to make cards and scrapbook and my nephew loves to help and make his own also. When babysitting I enjoy teaching children how to make cards for the ones they love as well as a varity of crafts.
“I have a kind and caring outlook, a desire to help those in need, a dedicated lifestyle, and an open heart to be a friend. I hope these characteristics will help your young ones. I look forward to meeting with you and your little ones.” |

“Hi, my name is Anna. I have lived in Madison for the past two years, and currently work at UW hospital as an RN. I have many years of experience working with children. Throughout my college years I worked primarily for two families, and provided all cares for their children. Also, during high-school and college, I taught swim-lessons to children ages 1yr-16yrs. I have cared for children ages 1 month to 12 years. My past job duties have included cooking, cleaning, running errands, and providing transportation, just to name a few. I enjoy taking children for walks, playing at the park, swimming, playing games, and providing educational entertainment. I like watching children grow at every stage of their life, and would enjoy being part of your child's development.”

“Hi there! My name is Brianna and I am a student at UW-Madison. I am originally from the town of South Wayne, WI. When I'm not busy studying to complete my Life Sciences Communication degree, I love spending time with children. I have experience with infants through school-aged children, and have babysat since I was 13. I began babysitting my cousins from the time they were born (they are now 11, 7, 4, and 2), and then spent summers sitting for other children in the area. I am also a leader in 4-H working with children ages 7 and up and have been a camp counselor. I am very comfortable handing multiple children at once as well as many age ranges. I love playing games, coloring, doing arts/crafts, and going to the park when I sit; after all, I'm still a kid myself. What I enjoy most about spending time with children is teaching them something new. It might be out while we're on a walk or how to tie their shoe, but the excitement when they understand something new is something I treasure every time it happens. When I have time away from school or work, I enjoy hanging out with friends, going for runs, spending time at home with family and my dog, Abby, and watching the Badgers. Go Bucky! I look forward to meeting you and your family soon!”

“Hello! My name is Carissa Franz. I am 21 years old and I just transferred from UW-La Crosse to UW-Madison for spring semester. I am an early childhood to middle childhood education major with a concentration in global perspectives. I will be certified to teach birth through sixth grade upon graduation. My hometown is Manitowoc, Wisconsin, a town of about 30,000 people right on Lake Michigan. However, my parents recently relocated to Middleton and bought Orchids by the Ackers, which prompted my decision to transfer to Madison.
“My experience with children began as a teenager. At a young age I knew that I wanted to be a teacher, therefore I took many opportunities to work with children throughout my teenage years. I began babysitting for families throughout the Manitowoc area at the age of 14 and continued to do so until I moved to La Crosse to attend college. I was also a dance teacher for the Manitowoc Parks and Recreation Department during the summers, instructing children from the ages of three to fifteen. In addition, I volunteered as a camp counselor during the summers of 2004 and 2005 for the 4-H organization in Mishicot, Wisconsin. One of the best experiences I started at the age of 16 was becoming a volunteer Big Sister through the Big Brothers Big Sisters Organization. Upon moving to La Crosse I was re-matched with another Little Sister through the organization, and now am in the process of being matched with a new Little here in the Dane County area. Lastly, I was given the opportunity to be a teacher’s assistant in a kindergarten classroom every morning for three hours my senior year of high school.
“During my college years thus far I have taken many opportunities to gain more experience with children. I am currently employed through the Wisconsin Youth Company’s before and after school program as a lead program specialist. In addition, I worked for a year and a half for the La Crosse YMCA in their before and after school program, and also in their day camp during the summer of 2007. Through this program I was able to develop great relationships with many of the families and babysat for them often. I am still in contact with many of them today! I also took the opportunity to be gain more experience in classroom settings both in a first grade classroom in Sparta, Wisconsin and in a Head Start classroom in La Crosse during the spring of 2008. In addition, this past summer I was employed as a nanny for a family in Sun Prairie, as well as babysat for many families throughout the Dane County area. Also, through being admitted early to the education program at UW-La Crosse in fall 2007 I have many classes that deal with child development and education. Some of these classes include, Child Development, Educational Psychology, Introduction to Early Childhood Education, Introduction to Elementary Education, Education in a Global Society, Physics for Elementary School Teachers, Math for Elementary School Teachers, Health Info for Teachers, and many others. I am continuing developing my knowledge through courses here at UW-Madison in the education program.
“Some of my hobbies include dance, crafts and art!!!, reading, swimming, and sledding in the winter. However, I am a very flexible person and I love to try new things. I am constantly looking for new activities and enjoy variety and options.
“As a caretaker for your children I believe safety is my number one priority. I believe a quality babysitter puts children as their first priority, especially their safety, is a positive role model, and assists the children in coming up with fun and exciting activities so the night is a fun and positive experience! I look forward to establishing positive relationships with you and your family! =)” |

“Hello, my name is Carrie Schreiber. I am 27 years old. I was born in Forth Worth, Texas, and moved to Illinois with my parents when I was 5 years old. During my Sophomore year in High School, I was surprised by the news that we were moving again, this time to Wisconsin. I have learned to adapt to change quite well. After Graduation in 1999 I began a wonderful path of determination. From 2001-2003, I attended Madison Area Technical College in the complex Medical Assistant Program. Within the first year, I accomplished getting my Health Care Provider, CPR Certification, and extensive training in Medical Emergencies. The following and final year, I accomplished training in Law & Ethics, Phlebotomy, Hematology, and working with families in a Clinical setting. At the end of my two-year program, and close to graduation, I decided that my true calling is working with children. I thought I knew then, but I know now more than ever. I feel from what I have learned and experienced throughout my schooling that this will be a wonderful tool to use in any working position, and that none of it will ever go to waste. I have always found working with children to be extremely rewarding. I have been a Certified Live-out Nanny since 2002. I was also a Teacher at Play Haven Childcare Center for one year with all age groups from Infant-School age. During that time I also worked as voluntary tutor at McFarland Primary School, tutoring first graders by holding independent reading groups and working one-on-one with students on a variety of skills. I am proud to say that, on February 24th of 2007, I completed the Heart saver Pediatric First Aid with Adult & Child CPR & AED with flying colors! As a Certified Nanny, I am required to update all my certifications every 3 years. Working with children brings out the best in me and my life. Being a Nanny or any kind of childcare provider is what I feel is my calling and I wouldn't have it any other way. Children are our future, so innocent looking out to a gigantic world for knowledge and comfort. To be able to be a part of a child's learning process is truly remarkable. To watch a child grow day to day is a wonderful experience. I would love to be a part of that in any home. I feel that I am more than qualified to be a childcare provider that will be funny, playful, a listener, a teacher, a friend, a safe haven, a shoulder to cry on, and most of all a part of the family. Some of my Hobbies include: Playing the Piano, Quiet get-togethers with friends and family, running (Relay for Life), listening to music, writing poetry, Continuing Education classes, and scrapbooking.” |

“Hi, my name is Courtney and I am 24 years old. I am currently a student at UW-Whitewater and will be graduating in December. This Fall I will be doing my student teaching in Madison so I have moved back here full time. After graduating I will have a dual license in Early Childhood Education and Special Education which certifies me to teach ages birth through third grade in both regular education and special education. I feel lucky to be part of such a unique program at the University, it is truly rewarding. During my years in the program I have had several opportunities to work with children in many different settings. I have worked in a head start classroom in Beloit, WI. with 3-5 year olds; a kindergarten classroom in Delevan, WI.; an early childhood/special education classroom with 3-5 year olds with varying abilities in Janesville, WI.; and a first/second grade classroom in Edgerton, WI. On top of that I have already finished my pre-school student teaching at the Waisman Center in Madison, WI. and my birth to three student teaching at St. Francis Children's Center in Milwaukee, WI. I have learned a tremendous amount from each of these placements and feel that I have gained great ideas and techniques to use while working with children of all abilities. I also have job experience related to the field; I was a summer nanny for newborn twins and a 2yr. old, and a summer nanny for 3 girls ages 6 months, 6 years old, and 8 years old. I also worked at The Learning Depot 2 in Whitewater, WI. with children ages 6months-5 years old and at the Preschool of The Arts in Madison. I feel comfortable and confident with newborns and have a lot of experience taking care of them as well as older children. I am nurturing, friendly, caring, outgoing, and a team worker. As a teacher, I work well with collaboration which helps me work well with families. I think that positive relationships with families are as important as the relationship with the children. I am open to new ideas and am willing to share some of my own. A little bit about myself, other than work experience is: I was born and raised in Madison and come from a family of six. I have a twin sister as well as an older brother and a younger brother. My love for children started from an early age as my mother stayed home with us and ran a child care program out of our home. I loved helping her with the children as well as taking care of my younger brother when he was born. He is 8 years younger than me so it was a wonderful learning experience at a young age. I also enjoy photography and scrapbooking. I enjoy working with children because they are full of energy, life, and love. When I look at any child I see their potential and want to help them reach their goals. I love to jump right in and play with them, join in on the fun and learning. Being around children is what makes me happy and to teach is my passion; I am lucky to be able to make a career out of it. Thanks for your time and I look forward to meeting you and your children!” |

“Hi, my name is Donna, and I live in Madison. I was a certified childcare provider in my home for 10 years, while my 2 daughters were growing up. I was a Girl Scout leader for 4 years, and a room mother for both of my daughters at their school. I have 6 grandchildren, and I have been very involved with their childcare and activities. The oldest grandson is now a sophomore in college, and the youngest granddaughter is 6 years old and in kindergarten this year. I started working with Cheri in 2004, when she was just starting "While You're Out Babysitting." I left in 2005 when I accepted a full time management position. I started back working with Cheri this past September, after taking early retirement in August. I have had extensive training in first aid, safety, security, and CPR. I am a caring, patient, and kind person, and I love spending time with children. I look forward to meeting you and your children.”

“Hi! My name is Hannah Rose Maurer. I am a junior here at UW-Madison and majoring in communications. In my spare time, I love boating, shopping, cleaning, and hanging out with my friends. I played softball for 13 years and enjoy watching or playing just about any other sport. In high school, I taught 3rd grade Sunday School for 2 years and found many here-and-there sitting jobs through friends and family. Throughout high school, I helped coach and ref some little league softball and volleyball clubs. My most in-depth child care experiences have definitely come from babysitting my 4- and 1-year-old nieces, Makenna and Maliya. I watched them a lot in their very early ages, and, even though I've moved to Madison, I still continue to make new and exciting memories with them. My parents are in the process of adopting a little girl named Jesi. She has been with us just a short couple of weeks so far, and getting to know her and helping her adjust and grow has been so rewarding. I find helping children learn brings me great satisfaction whether it be school-related, sports-related, or just with general knowledge, teaching them something can make my day. I am comfortable working with children of any age and looking after pets as well. I consider myself to be a fun, passionate, and hard-working person; I have a lot of positive energy and really enjoy giving that energy to others. I can't wait to meet you and your family!”

“Hi there! My name is Jess. Fresh off my recent travels, I'm excited to be back home in the Madison area celebrating the colorful changes of the season and enjoying the great outdoors. I am a recent graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a B/A in Conservation Biology, Physical Geography and a certificate in Environmental Studies. My academic and personal love for nature led me to a fabulous job this summer leading adventure tours in the far north, Alaska. My experience with children stretches far back to a young age when I looked after my two younger sisters as well as some of my 24 cousins. Eventually I began taking regular babysitting jobs for neighbors and family friends when I completed my Red Cross Babysitting Certification. In recent years I've worked with kids in community gardens including a farm and wilderness preserve in the California in the summer of 2007. In Alaska, this past summer, I took kids on hikes and bike rides around the state. I love the curiosity of children and their un-jaded outlook of the world. I find myself re-inspired every day that I work with kids and hope that I can teach them as much as they seem to teach me. I am passionate about creative child development, as the children are the future of our world. Children can feel comfortable expressing themselves around me because I am an active listener and dream supporter. I can even help them with their homework. In fact, I enjoy that educational interaction. Eventually I would like to go back to school and teach in a more formal setting, specifically environmental studies in high school. In my free time I like to see live music, shop at the farmer's market, go camping, hike, bike, read, cook, paint, draw, shoot photography, travel (my summer job allowed me to drive to and from Alaska and across the country to Wisconsin) and generally explore the outdoors. I am First Aid and CPR certified and have a commercial driver's license. I love animals so your pets are more than fine with me. I look forward to meeting you and your family and hope to see you soon!”

“My name is Jill Meyer. I am currently 38 years old. I have any Associates Degree in Early Childhood from Northeast Iowa Community College. I am currently working full-time for a traveling childcare facility. For that job, I travel 26 weeks throughout the year and reside in Madison on the weeks that I have off. My current position allows me to set up a new safe and engaging environment every week in a different city. I have many years of experience in childcare both in teaching and administration. My experience started in my hometown of Dubuque Iowa in a preschool program with a mixed age group of 3-5 year olds. I was also included as the on-site director of the before and after school program. Which included a summer program both on site and in the community. In this position I implemented a weekly lesson plan which consisted of a Christian curriculum. I then moved to Arizona where I worked in an infant program also implementing a weekly lesson plan, which was based on the Creative Curriculum. This curriculum allows children and educators to develop the whole chlild through age appropriate activities. Through the company, I transferred into a position here in Madison where I taught in a preschool age program, age 3-5. After 3 years in Madison I was promoted to Assistant Director. Through this position I not only was able to interact with the children I was able to learn the ins and outs of running a childcare facility. After 2 years as Assistant Director I made a lateral move into a Program Coordinator position with the traveling center I am currently employed by. I currently work with ages 6 weeks- 12 years and provide safe and stimulating environments through consistency of teachers and the Creative Curriculum.
“I come from a big family, I am number 6 out of 7 children. I have 14 neices and nephews and I have babysat every single one of them over the years. I have now moved my babysitting onto my nephews triplets whenever I can. I love to travel, read books, and hang out with friends in my free time. I look forward to the opportunity of taking care of your children and offering them a stimulating but safe environment.” |

“Hey everyone!! My name is Kira, and I am excited to have a chance to be a part of your child's life, even if it is only for a few hours. I have been back in Madison about 3 years and have my own business as a life coach, but much of the last 10+ years of my life has been spent working with children. I ran a day camp in South Korea, and worked at camps in Iowa, California, and New York. I was the Youth Program Director for two cruise lines (Royal Caribbean and Holland America) and used to be the Youth and Teen director for the YMCA here in Madison. I love my new business venture but will always miss working with kids. That is why While You're Out Babysitting is such a perfect match for me.”

“Hi! My name is Laura and I am 23 years old. I have been with While You're Out since 2007. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 2010 and currently work in marketing. I was born and raised in Madison. I have always adored spending time with kids! When I was in grade school I dreamed of becoming a teacher. In middle school I was an assistant Sunday school teacher for a while at my church and loved being in a classroom with kids. I took Family Life in high school and earned an Assistant Childcare Certificate. I started baby-sitting when I was 11 for my younger brother and sister. While I was growing up I babysat on a regular basis for families in my neighborhood. I always have a ton of energy for doing fun activities with kids. I love making crafts, teaching, doing sports and playing games! I am very compassionate and always have lots of love to give! I sincerely look forward to meeting you and your children!” |

“Hey! My name is Lindsay and I am going to be a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I am an English major with an Emphasis in Creative Writing and I love working with kids! I've worked with children in a wide variety of ways including positions in teaching and camp counseling.
“For my first job in college, I worked as a camp counselor at a stay-away sports camp in California. I was required to maintain 24-hour supervision of at least ten children for a total of two weeks at a time. I led them in various athletic activities including rope climbing, wakeboarding, volleyball, basketball, horseback riding, SCUBA diving and much more. Planning fun, outdoor activities for the kids was a blast, and I loved getting to know them over the course of the summer.
“My most recent and unique work experience was in Florence, Italy as a teaching assistant in an elementary school for a class of twenty Italian second graders. I led discussions in the Italian language on the differences between American and Italian cultures and taught them basic computer skills. It was a fantastic experience!
“Though these experiences were all fantastic, my most favorite teaching job took place last summer with a literacy non-profit organization in Chicago called Open Books. As a literacy intern, I led numerous creative writing classes for young students and conducted reading assistance programs for students in underserved communities. I loved reading with the kids and finding new ways to help them relate to the material. It was by far the most rewarding experience I've ever had.
“I'm a very bubbly and outgoing girl, and I know how to make anything fun! I look forward to meeting you and your family very soon!” |

“Hello! My name is Margaret and I am currently a student at UW-Madison majoring in Elementary Education and Psychology. I have lived in Madison for almost four years now and I absolutely love it. I started nannying in Madison over two years ago, almost three now. I have experience with children from ages newborn to 10 years, and I love working with every age group. I have done all day, evening, overnight, and even long-term child care and I am confident that you will be comfortable leaving your children with me. I am not an expert chef, but I do feel comfortable cooking meals, as well as giving baths, naptime, and bedtime. I am a huge fan of being active, getting out and doing things. Weather permitting, I love going for walks or bike rides to nearby parks or libraries, playing tag or basketball, or anything else that includes being outside. I am also very fond of the Children's Museum and the zoo. As a nanny, I feel that my job is to keep the children entertained, be that fun person that gets to come when the parents leave, but I also want your children to feel as secure with me as they do with you. I am close to some of the past families I have babysat for as I am with my own family. I look forward to getting to know you and your children, and hopefully becoming a part of your family!” |

“Hi, I’m Melissa. I am currently a nanny and have been for the past five years for the same wonderful family. I work with three girls, a five-year-old and four-year-old twins. I started working with this family when the oldest girl was 6 months old and have been happily working with them ever since. I started babysitting when I was 13 for children in my neighborhood and loved it; so I never really stopped. I have experience with children of all ages. I started taking care of the twins I nanny for when they were only a few days old and have babysat for kids all the way up through the ages. In my free time I love to read anything and everything that I can get my hands on. I also love spending time with my Labrador retriever at the dog park and on walks. I have a degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Psychology with an emphasis in child development. I plan to pursue a masters in psychology so that I can continue my work with children. I hope to always be able to work with children in one form or another.”

“Hi! My name is Rachel Smalley; I'm 24 years old and live in Verona. I am currently finishing up graduate school degree through UW-Stevens Point, in Speech-Language Pathology. I am in my last semester, doing my externship (student teaching) in McFarland with 1st-5th graders. I received my undergraduate degree at Minnesota State University, Mankato, in Communication Disorders. I will be certified to work in the schools, at a hospital, or in a nursing home. I am really enjoying working in the schools right now, and will begin looking for a job this spring!
“I have been working with kids ever since I was in middle school. I have three younger siblings I babysat for growing up, as well as many neighbor kids. In high school I worked at a summer church camp where I was responsible for children ages 5-14. During the school year, my family took in newborn babies that were going to be adopted, so I gained quite a bit of experience with that age as well. Throughout my college years I volunteered with Sunday school programs at the church I was attending, teaching children ages 5-10. I also volunteered with the 3-4 year olds once a week with their AWANA program at the church. During undergrad in Mankato, we held "Kids Day Off" events where we set up games for kids when they were off of school. While in graduate school, I worked with clients ages 8-14 and am currently working with 1st-5th graders during my externship. I also worked for a high school in Stevens Point coaching both cross country and track and field. I have had great experiences with kids of all ages and enjoy every one of them! I have been surrounded by kids my entire life, and am going into a profession that will allow me to continue to do that.
“I love sports of all kinds, both playing and watching. I competed in college cross country/track so running would be at the top of my list! :) I love to read, do arts and crafts, and all outdoor activities! I love to try new things, which is one of the great aspects about kids, they're constantly thinking of new activities and games! The most important thing to me is your child's safety, followed by them having a fun and enjoyable experience with me. I'm excited to get to know you and your family!!” |

“Hi everyone! My name is Samantha, I’m 21 years old and I am from Madison, WI, but I grew up in the small town of Lodi, WI. I have always enjoyed being around children, they are so much fun, and I believe that they can teach us just as much as we can teach them. I am from a big family so I was always helping my mother with my younger siblings. When I was a freshman in high school I started babysitting for a family, they have two children and I watched them 3 days a week, I still watch them now six years later. I am a creative person so I like to come up with activities for kids to do other then watch TV. I worked at a daycare in my home town for 2 years and had a blast doing it. I have taken care of children 6 weeks to 12 years old. I can cook and even though I'm not a genius, I am always happy to help kids with homework. I am so excited to get to know as many of you as I can.”

I started baby-sitting for my younger siblings at age 8 years, and at age 11 years began baby-sitting for one family in Madison for over 16 years. For quiet time, I love a great art project, a fun book or two, or quiet cuddle time - as one family calls me, "The baby whisperer." I am patient, honest, responsible, and reliable. Your children come first for me. My hope is that your children have fun, grow, and learn while in my care. I look forward to meeting you and your family.”
